Join Public Art Wood Buffalo for the ᒣᐢᑲᓇᐊᐧ ᑯᑎᑯᑕᑳᐧᐤ Intersections gallery opening night to honour the rich stories of intersectional identities within the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. Curated by Jes Croucher of Pawâmiw Creative and featuring main exhibiting artist Dan Cardinal McCartney and other local artists, this exhibition aims to capture the spiritual and sacred nature of 2SLGBTQIA+ identities through Cree language and visualization.
Intersectionality, a concept coined by scholar Kimberlé Crenshaw, represents how the interconnectedness of a person’s culture, gender, race, sexuality, age, class, physical ableness and more defines their unique worldview. Through a range of mediums, ᒣᐢᑲᓇᐊᐧ ᑯᑎᑯᑕᑳᐧᐤ Intersections urges the viewer to move beyond a singular narrative and capture the nuances of intersectionality and the rich stories that make up the 2SLGBTQIA+ experience. Let the artworks be your guides, igniting discussions that challenge your preconceived notions and expand your worldviews.
Event will feature guest speakers including exhibiting artist, Dan Cardinal McCartney, Brooke McMillan of PRIDE YMM, Jes Croucher of Pawâmiw Creative and more.
Light refreshments and appetizers will be served.
