February 1st marks the beginning of Black History Month – a month dedicated to celebrating the achievements and contributions of Black Canadians that have helped shaped our country into the diverse and prosperous nation it is today.
This year’s theme for #BHM is “February and Forever: Celebrating Black History Today and Every Day”.
Rehoboth Alliance/FM and the Afro Canadian Community of RMWB present the following events in celebration of Black History Month in our community.
It’s that time of the year again! BLACK HISTORY MONTH CELEBRATION!!
Firstly, we are grateful to our pioneers in the persons of Hon. Dr. Jean Augustine, Rosemary Sadlier, and others who through hard work were able to get the Government of Canada to acknowledge the contributions of Black Canadians and gave us the month of February to celebrate our heritage.
The theme chosen by the Government of Canada for this years’ celebration emphasizes this truth: “February and Forever: Celebrating Black History Today and Every day.”
This is a clarion call to all peoples of Black origin to come out during this month to celebrate Black heritage in your own way – either in a group setting or as an individual.
Celebrate yourself as we honor and appreciate the sweat, blood, and tears of our pioneers’ past and present, that have brought us this far.
Rehoboth Alliance and the Afro-Canadian Community of the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB) have lined up the following events to commemorate the celebration:
• Lincoln Alexander School Essay Contest – Ongoing in all
schools in the RMWB
• Youth Discussions and Talent Show – Saturday, February 12 @
1 pm – UNIFOR Building
• Banquet and Awards Night – Saturday, February 25 @ 7 pm –
