The Sawubona exhibit was created by the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo in partnership with Coalitions Creating Equity and tells the personal stories of people from our region.
International Day for Tolerance:
In 1996, the UN General Assembly adopted Resolution 51/95 proclaiming 16 November as International Day for Tolerance. https://www.unesco.org/en/days/tolerance
“Tolerance is respect, acceptance and appreciation of the rich diversity of our world’s cultures, our forms of expression and ways of being human.”
In partnership with Fort McMurray International Airport and the Wood Buffalo Community Foundation join us as we observe the National Day of Tolerance.
Explore the I See You: Sawubona exhibit and engage in the Vital Conversation: Supports for immigrants and newcomers.
“We are pleased to host our partners and friends at YMM to mark this very important day. As a gateway to Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo, members of Team YMM are often the first to greet newcomers and immigrants arriving in our region. We look forward to continued collaborative work, to identify new opportunities to showcase our region’s diversity and promote inclusion.”
-Denean Robinson, Interim President & CEO with Fort McMurray Airport Authority
The Wood Buffalo Community Foundation invests in building strong and resilient communities in unique and innovative ways. We do this in part through Vital Signs and in-depth conversations such as the one on November 16th: Supports for Immigrants and Newcomers. We are delighted to be working with the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo and the Fort McMurray International Airport to bring people together. This is the start towards a strong region built on respect for human rights and understanding, and where acceptance of differences is the norm.
