The presentation will discuss the main types of intellectual property: patents, trademarks, industrial designs, and copyright. The facilitator will discuss how each of these is created, how to protect them, and how they are used to support a business. He will also discuss common pitfalls, and how to avoid them.

Nathan Woodruff is the principal at the law firm Thompson Woodruff in Edmonton. He received both a BSc (Engineering Physics) with distinction and an LLB from the University of Alberta. Nathan is a lawyer and a registered patent and trademark agent with about 20 years of experience. He is a member of the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada and the National Association of Patent Practitioners.
