ABOUT THIS WORKSHOP

This workshop is an exciting opportunity to explore the potential in our community spaces for creating and presenting performance. In the world of theatre making, traditional theatre spaces are increasingly out of reach, and simply aren’t suited to all stories, so this workshop takes a hands on approach to address these ideas from two perspectives: Producer-Brain and Artistic-Brain.

This course allows participants to identify the unique characteristics of unconventional locales: where the difficulties lie, what advantages there are, and things to keep in mind when embarking on space that isn’t usually intended for performances. Participants will dive in to explore the fantastic creative potential in making art in the unexpected, where it can be intimidating and how it can be liberating.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Arts Council welcomes playwright and theatre artist Louise Casemore. Louise is in the final stages of an MFA in Theatre Practice from the University of Alberta, specializing in Playwriting and Immersive Theatre. Her original plays include OCD, Functional, GEMINI, and Undressed, which received a world premiere and two Betty Mitchell Award nominations with Alberta Theatre Projects in 2022. Louise remains active in the national community by way of dramaturgy, teaching, and research. She is also an active member of the Playwrights Guild of Canada.

ABOUT THE ARTIST IN RESIDENCE PROGRAM

This summer, we welcome two resident artists, Louise Casemore and Danielle Piper, to the Wood Buffalo region.

The Artist in Residence program follows the traditional residency model, in which professional artists spend time creating work inspired by the environment, culture and people of Wood Buffalo. It is open to artists of any discipline living in Canada.

Stay tuned for announcements as Louise will be showcasing her own art created during her residency on June 29th at Keyano Theatre & Arts Centre
