Alberta Board Member Essentials
Location
- 20 Riedel Street, Fort McMurray, AB, Canada
The Alberta Board Member Essentials (ABME) program offers comprehensive training for new and advancing board members through a blend of online courses and interactive workshops, equipping them to serve effectively on non-profit boards.
For new board members, ABME provides essential foundational knowledge to support their early contributions. For those with more experience, the program deepens their understanding of non-profits, emphasizing the role of both individual board members and organizations within the broader social sector.
The complete program includes three on-demand courses and two live sessions. Participants complete each on-demand course at their own pace, with each course requiring approximately three hours. The live sessions feature immersive, hands-on learning through two simulated board scenarios, allowing participants to practice real-life board dynamics.
Through ABME, participants learn to:
-Gain a solid understanding of governance principles (including roles, responsibilities, and best practices)
-Become better equipped to make informed, strategic decisions, understanding their fiduciary duties and how to balance various stakeholder interests
-Build confidence in their ability to contribute effectively in board meetings and discussions
-Develop a deeper awareness of regulatory and legal compliance requirements, minimizing risks of governance failures
-Foster better communication and collaboration among board members, improving the overall functioning of the board
-Think critically and strategically about the organization’s impact on community
Please note, this is a 2-part session (April 8 & 10); both days are in-person at the FuseSocial office).
