Youth Age 12 – 17 Hands-on Traditions: Harvest and Creation (Fish Scaling & Fire Bake)
Location
- 10500 Morrison St, Fort McMurray, AB T9H 0A6, Canada
Youth age 12–17 are invited to join us guided by our Knowledge Keeper Claire for a hands-on, two-day cultural workshop focused on traditional food skills and creative expression.
On July 8 from 2pm – 5pm, youth will learn how to scale, filet, and cook fish over an open fire, gaining teachings around traditional preparation methods and the cultural importance of food harvesting.
We’ll also be preserving the fish scales to use in an art project the following day. On July 9 from 2pm – 3pm, youth will return for a guided fish scale craft session, where they’ll explore how to turn natural materials into meaningful artwork rooted in Indigenous tradition.
This is a chance to learn new skills, connect with culture, and create something memorable – together.
All materials will be provided.
Registration is required. Space is limited, with priority given to Indigenous youth and families in our community. To register, contact 780-743-8555 or email reception@nistawoyouafc.com
