Arts in Action 60+: A Day of Art

Flower pressing – Learn the basics of flower pressing and build a beautiful flower portrait with a variety of different colours to choose from.

Wood burning (on Hide)- Join Rhonda Robinson of Spirit Creative in this hands-on cultural experience, participants will create a unique cardholder featuring traditional Métis-inspired beaded technique along the edges and “wood-burned” designs onto the hide. Through guided instruction, they will learn beading techniques, basic pyrography (wood-burning – butuniquely onto hide), and the cultural significance behind working with beads and animal hides. This workshop offers a creative and meaningful way to connect with Indigenous craftsmanship through gathering together while making a functional and beautiful piece.

Lippan and Mirror Art- This hands-on workshop introduces seniors to the traditional Indian art of Lippan Kaam, a beautiful craft using clay and mirrors to create intricate designs. Participants will learn step-by-step techniques to shape and decorate their own unique artworks, enhancing their creativity, fine motor skills, and cultural appreciation. This activity also promotes relaxation and social engagement in a fun, supportive environment.

BBQ buffet catered by Wild Rose Catering for lunch – Beef Burgers (assortment of toppings) , potato salad, creamy coleslaw, baked beans, corn on the cob also provided veggie trays, mini finger sandwiches, and sparkling pineapple lemonade.
