Métis Dot Art for Young Learners
Location
- 441 Sakitawaw Trail, Fort McMurray, AB, Canada
Funded by the ACWB, join Stacey Grant and our in-kind partner McMurray Métis Local 1935 for a workshop on Métis Dot Art and teachings.
Welcome to Métis Dot Art for Young Learners for youth aged 7-13! Join us in person at our in-kind partner McMurray Métis Local 1935’s Kahkiyaw Gathering Place for a fun and creative workshop designed especially for youth. This session blends art, storytelling, and cultural learning in a way that’s hands-on, engaging, and inspiring.
Youth will explore the elements of traditional beadwork through the expressive medium of dot art, learning about the history behind our designs. Together, we’ll talk about how patience, intention, and creativity come together in Métis art. Each participant will create their own dot art piece to take home while building cultural pride, focus, and confidence.
We are deeply appreciative of the Arts Council of Wood Buffalo‘s support in funding this event for Alberta Culture Days, and for the generosity of our in-kind partner McMurray Métis Local 1935 and their donation of event space, tool rental, and technology use in the Kahkiyaw Gathering Place.
This event is designed for participants aged 7-13 years old. Guardians of children attending are encouraged and welcome to stay for the duration of the class.
If you have a younger child who would like to attend, a guardian must be present.
Please send separate RSVPs for both the child and the guardian so we can have an accurate head count.
